Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928-2000), an Austrian painter whose works are full of rich colors and an ecologist who advocated cohabitation with nature, is a very familiar figure to the Japanese public. The exhibition particularly focuses on the “architecture” that Hundertwasser pursued throughout his career in order to realize an ideal relationship between man and nature. The exhibition introduces Hundertwasser’s achievement as a philosopher as well as a practitioner who continued his challenge to realize an ideal through art, with 100 works which include large architectural maquettes, paintings, prints and posters.
