Asbestos reexamination results

A recent asbestos reexamination conducted at the request of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology yielded positive results in the museum’s elevator shaft.
The asbestos used in the museum building is solidified, but the museum has requested a professional examination of its dispersal by Kinki Bunseki Center, Ltd. as a safety measure.  The amount of asbestos detected in the air was well below the standard set by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, at 2/100 to 4/100, and has no effect on the human body.
However, in order to completely ensure our visitors’ safety, and to maintain an environment where visitors can appreciate art without the distraction of anxiety, the museum is scheduled to have the asbestos permanently removed.  The schedule for the construction work will be announced on a later date.

Amount of asbestos found in the air
Governmental standard 10 fibers/liter
Outdoor examination less than 0.1 fibers/liter
Indoor examination 0.2–0.4 fibers/liter
