AOKI Shigeru [A Woman's Face] 1904, Private Collection
AOKI Shigeru, A Woman's Face,
1904, Private Collection
This exhibition reveals the entire scope of the life, artistic genius and early death of AOKI Shigeru (b.1882), who died on March 25, 1911 at the age of only 28. A century after his death, his works still delight art lovers, and the history of his life remains fascinating. This exhibit examines his life, his era and the praise he earned after his death, drawing on about 230 extant works (70 oils, 160 watercolors and sketches), and materials dealing with the period of his lifetime and since.
